EJAF PROJECT FILMS

These films were produced to highlight some of the work that the Elton John AIDS Foundation supports across the globe.  Each has a distinct focus and draws attention to the challenges faced by Women, Children and Vulnerable Groups as well as emphasizing the role Positive Lives and Innovation play in the fight against the AIDS pandemic.  Please click on the images below to view the films on our YouTube channel.

EJAF Project Film: Children

Children are an especially vulnerable group.  Globally, around 20% of girls and 10% of boys under 18 years are sexually abused; and one billion children live in poverty.  In addition, when women are infected with HIV, this brings risk to their unborn children as the virus can be passed in the womb, during childbirth or through breastfeeding.  Infants whose mothers die of AIDS are four times more likely to die before their second birthday.

EJAF Project Film: Women

EJAF Project Film: Women

Women make up almost half of all HIV infections worldwide. They are acutely vulnerable because so often they have no power over choices that affect their lives.  Poverty leads to sexual exploitation of women and within marriage women are also vulnerable, as domestic violence accounts for more deaths and disabilities amongst women than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents or war and this is particularly true of HIV positive women.

EJAF Project Film: Innovation

EJAF Project Film: Innovation

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is growing faster than conventional mechanisms can prevent it, or mitigate its impact on those who are infected or affected by the disease: every 8 seconds someone is newly infected by HIV; every hour over 330 people die of an AIDS related illness; and there are more than 15 million children orphaned by AIDS.  The impact of the epidemic is far reaching and requires much larger resources than are currently available to combat it.

EJAF Project Film: Vulnerable Groups

Vulnerable Groups refers to those communities who face a high risk of HIV infection but who have been marginalised by society including: Men who have sex with men, transgender communities, sex workers, prison populations and injecting drug users.  Their status as outside of the mainstream, means that they are not reached by general information campaigns and are excluded, or exclude themselves, from many health & HIV/AIDS services.

EJAF Project Film: Positive Lives

Positive Lives refers to living positively with HIV and overcoming the myriad of problems that HIV positive people around the world face including: accessing appropriate treatment and care services, managing side effects of medication, loss of employment and income, stigma and isolation.  We believe that positive people are the best placed to identify these issues and find appropriate solutions, and they should be central to the decision making process.
