'Linked Response' Programme Model Adopted Nationally in Cambodia
Thanks to the generosity on the night, a model programme – ‘Linked Response’ creating essential connections between HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health services is being implemented in all the health centres in Prey Veng, one of the poorest provinces in Cambodia.

Rev. Desmond Tutu Speaks in Support of EJAF-funded Programme
The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was one of Donald Woods Foundation’s (DWF) first donors, providing four year funding to establish a comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment programme around the Mbashe area of South Africa’s Eastern Cape.

Archer Inquiry Publishes Report
The Archer Inquiry into the contaminated blood and blood product disaster has published its report. The Inquiry was investigating the hepatitis and HIV infection of almost 5,000 people with bleeding disorders and many more through blood transfusions in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation continues to work in partnership with Comic Relief , who have provided a second year grant to EJAF (UK) for the "Orphans & Vulnerable Children Support Programme" in South Africa.

EJAF Funds New Community Centre In Vrygrond
The Vrygrond Community Development Trust, a local community group, is establishing a multi-purpose community centre in Vrygrond which replicates the highly successful Etafeni Centre in Nyanga, Cape Town, that EJAF helped to establish in 2004.

When Elton and David first visited the Baphumelele Children’s Home in the slums of Khayleitsha township in 2005, over 80 children, all of them orphaned or abandoned by AIDS, were surviving in a three-bedroomed house.

Trustee David Furnish has been in the Western Cape following up on projects funded by EJAF. He toured the site in Vrygrond where EJAF is funding a new community centre for parents and children with HIV/AIDS and dropped in on the Baphumelele Children’s Home in Khayleitsha to make a very special delivery.

I’m delighted to tell you 2008 was our most successful year ever, bringing us into 2009 with a very full agenda of work to support including Vygrond in South Africa where EJAF is funding a new community centre with huge help from Annie Lennox, and the Baphumelele Children’s Home which features in our new Project Film focusing on our work with Children.
