Elton Featured in World AIDS Day Edition of Boyz Magazine

Iconic London gay magazine Boyz featured Elton on the cover of their recent World AIDS Day special, as well as in depth interviews with the star and fellow pop idol Annie Lennox.

Riders for Health Programme Featured on New York Times Website
At the 2007 White Tie & Tiara Ball, Dr Mphu Ramatlepeng, Minister of Health for Lesotho, told guests of the HIV/AIDS crisis facing her country - one third of  Lesotho’s 1.8m population were HIV positive and 90% of people living with HIV/AIDS also had tuberculosis. Life expectancy stood at just 34 years.  At the Ball, EJAF asked guests to support an innovative programme known as Riders for Health, and were overwhelmed by the generosity of the pledges.  The Riders for Health programme is an ongoing success and EJAF have been proud to support it since 2007.  It has gained increasing press coverage and has now been featured on the New York Times website.

White Tie & Tiara Ball Pledge Supports Excellence in Creating HIV-free Generation

With the generous pledges from the 2008 White Tie and Tiara Ball, the Foundation supported a new service that linked antenatal care with HIV care, known as the ‘Linked Response’ programme, and run by President Clinton's Health Access Initiative [CHAI].  The new programme was trialled in the Cambodian province of Prey Veng in 2008/9.  Now the Linked Response programme has helped secure an Award for Excellence at the United Nations Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) summit in New York.

Summer Camp Brings Young People Living with HIV Together
In August the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) funded the first CHIVA (Children’s HIV Association) Summer Camp, bringing together HIV-positive young people aged 13-17 from all over the UK and Ireland.

The Foundation and its partners were well represented at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna this year.

Reprieve for Gay Men Sentenced in Malawi

In response to the sentencing in Malawi of two gay men to 14 years imprisonment,  Elton joined an international chorus in requesting their freedom, writing an open letter to President Mutharika of Malawi  in The Guardian on 29th May.

Sir Elton John celebrated his 63rd birthday with teenagers at the Football for Hope Centre (FFH) in Khayelitsha Township just outside Cape Town, South Africa.

Elton John & Annie Lennox Open Local Centre for AIDS Affected Community

At Elton's Kirstenbosch concert  on Wednesday 24th March 2010, he praised fellow singer/songwriter Annie Lennox as someone who ‘walks the walk when it comes to the fight against HIV and AIDS’.  Lennox made a surprise appearance at Elton’s show – the pair sang a duet of ‘Daniel’to huge applause.

Tamara Mellon, Founder and President of luxury accessory brand Jimmy Choo was in Khayelitsha township on the 24th March 2010 visiting services for women and children at risk of HIV/AIDS.

Elton Signs £1m Grant to Protect African Babies

Sir Elton John today announced from Cape Town, South Africa, the granting of a  £984,000 award to mothers2mothers (m2m) to be used to help prevent hundreds of thousands of babies across Africa from contracting the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through mother-to child transmission and assist mothers in staying healthy to care for their children.

HSE In Pledge to Keep Up Elton's Funding

The Health Service Executive, Ireland makes a public commitment to continue funding community pharmacy needle exchange services after the Foundation’s grant ends.

Robert Key Memorial Fund

Robert Key co-founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation with Sir Elton in 1993. He was instrumental in its development and growth as both Executive Director and Trustee until his death in October 2009. In his memory, the trustees of the Foundation have established a new grant fund to honour his passion and dedication to advancing the rights and needs of those most marginalised by the AIDS epidemic.
