ABOUT US

WORLD AIDS DAY MESSAGE FROM SIR ELTON JOHN

1 December, 2010

London, UK

It is with a hopeful heart that I thank you for visiting the Foundation’s website as we mark World AIDS Day 2010.  Hopeful because, in the words of Michel Sidibe, Executive Director of UNAIDS, ‘We have halted and begun to reverse the AIDS epidemic. Fewer people are becoming  infected with HIV and fewer people are dying from AIDS’. For someone who has been engaged in the HIV struggle for almost a generation, these words, and the new statistics that underpin them, have been a long and painful time coming.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to be Editor of The Independent newspaper on December 1st, where we look at some of the initiatives that are helping to change the global AIDS picture.  Please read this edition in print or online (www.independent.co.uk).  I hope it will fill you with a sense of optimism and purpose about fighting HIV around the world.

I also want to remember the importance of HIV in the UK, where this Foundation started.  During December, we hear from some of the wonderful organisations we work with in the UK about what they and EJAF are doing as partners and how we are aiming to lead the way in relevant, effective, HIV  care and support over the next decade.  Click Here to Watch the Video

Your support, as ever, is our lifeblood.  We have lots of wonderful things going on during December, all featured on this website.  And looking forward to 2011, we have a wonderful new appeal to build essential shelter for HIV-positive families living in the slums of Phnom Penh in Cambodia.  You can contribute to this directly and change someone’s life forever.  CLICK HERE TO DONATE

I wish you a fabulous Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year and I thank you for helping make this World AIDS Day one of hope.

Sir Elton John

Chairman
