The late Robert Key receiving his MBE for outstanding and dedicated service to charity. Buckingham Palace, London. 19 February 2008

The late Robert Key receiving his MBE for outstanding and dedicated service to charity. Buckingham Palace, London. 19 February 2008

It is with the deepest sadness that I want to share with all the Foundation’s friends and supporters that Robert Key, one of the co-Founders of my Foundation and its Director for 15 years, has passed away having struggled against myelofibrosis for several years.

Robert’s vision and commitment to the fight against AIDS inspired me to establish the Foundation and that commitment never faltered.  He led EJAF to become the largest HIV/AIDS funder in the UK, while recognising the magnitude of the international epidemic and securing funds and services that helped save hundreds of thousands of lives across four continents.

In his personal life, Robert was always the first to help friends who ever needed him, myself included.  It was a source of great pride to everyone who knew Robert when he was awarded an MBE in 2007.

At the Foundation we will take Robert’s passion, vision, and warmth as an inspiration in the work we continue to do.

He will be deeply missed but felt everywhere in our goals and our achievements.

Robert, we love you.
