During the next strategic cycle (2007-2010), EJAF seeks to support the following grant programmes in South Africa for which multi-year funding (up to 3 years) is available:
Access to Antiretroviral treatment
We are seeking programmes that work in collaboration with or within national provision, to effect rapid scale up of ARV treatment for adults and children living with HIV/AIDS particularly in resource poor areas. Either singly or with other stakeholders, such programmes should deliver not just HAART but a continuum of care, including VCT, palliative care, PMTCT, paediatric care and nutritional support. They must work to approved national protocols; demonstrate strong patient support, high adherence, reach at least 500 beneficiaries currently and have a cost effective process of adding clients to their programmes. They must be recognised by the Ministry of Health.
Scaling up response to the needs of Orphans and Vulnerable Children
We are seeking community based programmes that, either singly or with partners, are addressing the multiple needs of children, including emotional support, access to crèche or school, adequate nutrition, government grants, shelter and primary healthcare. They should demonstrate clear measurement of impact at household level and for the child; effective and appropriate ‘entry levels’ for services, reach at least 500 children currently and have a cost effective process of adding beneficiaries to their programmes. They must demonstrate sound working partnerships with health and education sectors.
One Off Grants
In addition, EJAF is open to applications for one-off (up to 1 year) grants to support the following:
- Organisations or networks of people living with HIV/AIDS, to support their empowerment to access the best care, live without discrimination and make informed choices about their lives.
- Programmes which specifically mitigate the vulnerability of women living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS such as access to education and prevention information/VCT, legal services, PEP, STI treatment and prevention methods.
- Programmes that provide services to severely marginalised/vulnerable communities, such as men who have sex with men (MSM), people in prison and injecting drug users.
Small Grants Fund
EJAF also operates a Small Grants Programme aimed at Community Based Organisations which, in South Africa, is administered via the Firelight Foundation. Please see their website for more details and how to apply: www.firelightfoundation.org
NB All programmes will need to ensure that beneficiaries are central to the design and implementation of the programme and be able to demonstrate their impact on the beneficiary group.
