During the next strategic cycle (2007-2010), EJAF seeks to support the following grant programmes in Tanzania for which multi-year funding is available:
Addressing the needs of women
We are seeking programmes that aim to decrease the vulnerability of women, particularly young married women, to HIV/AIDS and to mitigate its impact on them, including:
- Provision of integrated services that include sexual reproductive health, HIV testing/treatment and prevention of mother-to-child transmission. Programmes should have the ability to scale and to strengthen local or national provision within the health sector. They should offer multiple entry levels and measurement of impact.
- Provision of legal/human rights programmes that empower women infected, affected and at risk of HIV/AIDS to make informed choices, protect themselves and exercise their rights at local, regional and national level, particularly with respect to gender based violence as a mode of increased HIV transmission. Programmes must demonstrate measurement of impact.
- Provision of effective and sustainable, high impact food security and income generation programmes, particularly those integrated with HIV treatment and care and that have the ability to scale up. They must show clear measurement of impact at household level and for the individual, and anticipate how the programme will be sustained over the long term.
Organisations/networks of People Living with HIV/AIDS
We are seeking organisations and networks which empower PLWHA, enabling them to play a key role in the development of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services (particularly support to sero-discordant couples), improve their quality of life and exercise self-determination. Programmes must demonstrate impact at an organisational and beneficiary level, and anticipate how the programme will be sustained over the long term.
Access to HIV/AIDS Testing, Treatment and Care
We are seeking programmes that work in collaboration with or within government healthcare systems, to scale up ARV treatment and care services. Working singly or with other stakeholders these programmes should address delivery of a continuum of HIV/AIDS care including: VCT, HAART, PMTCT, Paediatric and Community Care Services. Programmes must be able to measure and demonstrate impact, have strong PLWHA involvement, good adherence and a cost effective mechanism of adding clients to their programmes. They must also anticipate how the programme will be sustained over the longer term.
Support for vulnerable or at risk groups
Particularly men who have sex with men and injecting drug users. We are seeking programmes that, either singly or with other stakeholders, are providing a range of information, treatment, care and support to enable beneficiaries to make informed choices regarding HIV/AIDS, access appropriate treatment, and exercise their rights. Programmes must demonstrate clear measurement of impact, effective and appropriate entry levels for services, and a cost effective process of adding beneficiaries to the programme.
Robert Key Memorial Fund
EJAF has set up a new grant fund in memory of our former Executive Director, Robert Key. This fund is seeking applications which advance the rights and meet the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS from vulnerable or marginalised communities. Small Grants Fund
EJAF also operates a Small Grants Programme aimed at Community Based Organisations which, in Tanzania, is administered via the Firelight Foundation. Please see their website for more details and how to apply: www.firelightfoundation.org
NB All programmes will need to ensure that beneficiaries are central to the design and implementation of the programme and be able to demonstrate their impact on the beneficiary group.
