| ORGANISATION: | TRICKLE UP PROGRAMME |
| AREA: | 2 PROVINCES OF CAMBODIA: PHNOM PENH & PREY VENG |
| GRANT PERIOD: | 2003 - 2009 |
| BENEFICIARIES: | 850 WOMEN AND OVER 2,000 FAMILY MEMBERS |
AIDS has taken a heavy toll on women in Cambodia who account for 75% of all new infections. The aim of this programme is to help women infected or affected by the disease to provide for themselves and their families.
EJAF supports Trickle Up to provide seed capital, business training and support services to women in extreme poverty. These income generating microenterprises help women infected or affected by the epidemic to deal with the impact of HIV/AIDS on their families. In many cases beneficiaries were previously surviving on $0.50 per day.
The microenterprise programmes range from silk weaving to pig rearing and enable families to raise their standard of living in a small but sustainable way. For example from the most recent batch of beneficiaries:
100% reported improved household nutrition
50% reported more of their children attending school
50% reported improvements in their housing
Trickle Up combines core business training with a group savings programme and works with a local partner “WOMEN” who identify and monitor beneficiaries as part of their home based care programme.
