LUNCH AROUND THE WORLD

Lunch Around the World (LATW) is the concept whereby Elton's fans all over the world raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. LATW began in December 2001, after eltonjohn.com received an Email suggesting an annual charity event to support EJAF. The suggestion came from Nancy Case, an Elton fan in Florida.  Her concept was simple but splendid: get together with your friends around the time of Elton's birthday and raise money for EJAF. 

In March 2002 Nancy hosted the first ever LATW event, and after reading about it on eltonjohn.com  the idea appealed to many of Elton's fans around the world. $6400 was raised in that first year, and since then LATW has grown and grown, raising increasingly more money every year. So far the fantastic sum of over $164,000 has been raised through LATW events and given directly to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

All sorts of events have come under the umbrella of 'Lunch Around the World': coffee mornings, candy sales in the office, pub visits, lunches, dinners, sponsored theatre shows, fundraising gigs,  Elton tribute band concerts, boat trips, cocktails at the zoo, tennis parties, auctions of Elton memorabilia, raffles, a river cruise around Manhattan on Elton's 60th birthday and many more. The events have taken place at all times of the year and have been held across the USA and Canada, in Britain and other European countries, in Russia, Japan and Australia.

LATW is entirely fan-based, raising money without using the resources of the EJAF or indeed of Elton. eltonjohn.com  encourages and publicises the events, and ensures that all the money raised goes directly to the EJAF.
